Get your immigrant workers to buy into the 401(k) match you budgeted for
Our private workshops teach them how the U.S. financial system works and how to use the plan you already offer. Delivered by our founder Larissa Gomes, a Financial Education Instructor certified by the National Financial Educators Council, who learned the system the hard way as an immigrant herself.

One invoice from your HR or benefits budget.
One 90-minute workshop, onsite or online
The people who never open the benefits portal will still sit in the room and ask their questions out loud.
A live workshop, onsite or online
Ninety minutes in a room you already have, at a time your people can actually make. Up to 50 people.
Material written for immigrants
Built around the questions immigrants actually carry: no credit history, a visa that limits things, family money sent home, a bank that already charged them a fee they did not understand.
English, Portuguese, or Spanish
Sessions run in English. If your people would rather hear it in Portuguese or Spanish, say so on the call and Larissa teaches it in that language.
What the 90 minutes covers
| 0:00 | Where the gap comes from. Larissa opens with her own story: the 401(k) match she turned down at her first job, and the 5 years of compounding it cost her. |
| 0:15 | Where your money sits. Checking, savings, and the high-yield savings account most people have never been shown. What the fees are, and how to stop paying them. |
| 0:40 | A budget that survives a real paycheck. Built for salaried and hourly pay alike, and for people sending money home every month. |
| 1:00 | The retirement plan you already offer. What a 401(k) match is in plain words, what an IRA is, and what happens to the money if they change jobs or leave the country. |
| 1:20 | Questions, out loud. People ask the things they would never type into an app. |
We adjust the running order to your workforce.
Larissa Gomes teaches every session herself
She moved from Brazil to New York in 2012. At her first job here, she turned down a 401(k) match, because nobody had ever explained what one was. She learned what missing out on 5 years of compounding had cost only after she joined Bloomberg, which gave her a free financial coach.
Once she learned how the U.S. financial system worked, she had to pass it on. Out of the Mattress is the organization she needed when she arrived. She teaches this material to immigrant workers across New York.

What participants say
Graduates of our four-session program.
“Before the program, I really didn’t think I was going to be able to retire in the US. But the program made me realize I’m actually doing well. I’m on track for retirement. That was a huge, positive surprise.”
Mayne, graduated January 2026
“I opened a high-yield savings account and a Roth IRA, and my emergency fund keeps growing. I’m going through uncertainty at work right now, but I’m not worried. It feels amazing to have two months of rent saved up.”
43-year-old, in NYC for 12 years
“Before, money would come in and immediately go out, and I didn’t even have time to process it. Now, I understand credit systems and feel in control. Instead of impulse-buying something like an iPhone, I think of it as a savings goal.”
37-year-old, in NYC for 7 years
Common questions
Do you sell financial products to our workers?
No. We do not sell anything, we do not recommend a specific bank or fund, and we earn no commission on anything a worker does afterwards. This is general financial education, not individualized financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, and it creates no advisor relationship with anyone in the room.
How many people can attend?
Up to 50. Past 50 people the room stops asking questions, and the questions are the part that works. For a bigger workforce, run more sessions.
What do we need to provide?
You invite and confirm the attendees, and you provide the room. Onsite, that means a private room with a screen or a projector. Online, we send the video call link. We bring the teaching and the materials.
Can we record the session?
Not without our written permission. Your participants keep the materials we hand out and can use them for as long as they like. Ask us if you want a recording, and we will talk about it.
What if we have to cancel or move the date?
More than 30 days of written notice, and you reschedule at no charge or take a full refund. Between 30 days and 5 business days, you get 75% back, or you apply the full fee to one new date within 90 days. Fewer than 5 business days, the full fee is due. You can reschedule once.
Will you keep what our workers say confidential?
We do not repeat what a participant says outside the session, except where the law requires it. In a group we cannot control what other participants repeat, and we ask everyone to keep the room private. You get no participant names or personal information from us.
How far ahead do we need to book?
Larissa teaches every session herself, so the calendar is the real limit. Three to four weeks of notice is comfortable. Tell us your date on the call and we will say straight away whether it is open.
