Join Our Board of Advisors
Out of the Mattress is a volunteer initiative that provides culturally-aware financial education to help immigrants build lasting wealth. Our pilot program has already helped immigrants across the U.S. open investment accounts, create budgets, and build credit. Now, we're recruiting our first board of advisors to help guide our transition to a formal nonprofit under fiscal sponsorship.
Who We're Looking For
We welcome both experienced board members and emerging leaders with:
- Expertise in financial services, financial education, immigration services, community organizations, marketing/communications, nonprofit law, or nonprofit operations
- Personal or professional connection to immigrant communities
- Multicultural competence and understanding of diverse financial perspectives
- Enthusiasm for financial education and economic empowerment
We're eager to bring on advisors who can help us:
- Scale our impact from our initial cohort to broader immigrant populations
- Forge lasting partnerships with community-led organizations
- Connect with potential donors and corporate sponsors
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic input as we establish our nonprofit structure
- Advise our executive director on finance and operations
- Help us develop basic governance policies
- Advocate for our mission in your immediate network
Time Commitment (Remote-Friendly)
- Quarterly 2-hour virtual board meetings
- Occasional email correspondence
- One-year initial term, with opportunity to extend
